SERIES: MAPA DE SUELOS
Mapa de Suelos is inspired by the layered geology of Peru’s landscapes. It brings us closer to the history, materiality and the lytic diversity of the Andean territory, while revealing the persistence and precision required in joining stone blocks.
Mapa de Suelos are made from fragmented stone considered waste by large industry, and sourced from diverse regions of Peru. The construction is a labor intensive process: diverse stones including marble, travertine, and onyx from Andean quarries are seamlessly joined by hand. Each piece takes months to build, and the studio can only take a limited amount of commissions per year.
